Terms and Conditions

All mares coming to the stud for foaling will need to arrive at least 3 weeks before their due date.

Vaccinations: All mares are to be up to date with flu/tet vaccinations and all mares coming in to foal must be vaccinated against EHV.

Swabs: All mares coming in for natural covering must have been swabbed and free from CEM, EVA and EIA and fit for breeding, this can be done prior to arrival or at the Stud but a clear result is essential before covering will take place.

Shoes: All mares coming in to foal are to have all shoes removed and mares coming for natural cover are required to have hind shoes removed. All mares are required to have been recently attended to by the farrier.

Passports: Must accompany all mares to stud.

Booking form must be received by Houndsell Stud prior to the arrival of your mare.

Worming: All mares must be wormed 1 week before arrival at the stud.

Stud Fees: Due on collection of mare or on a monthly basis for longer term stays.

We reserve the right not to cover any mare deemed to behave dangerously.

We reserve the right to authorise veterinary sedation for examination/procedures if required at owners expense.

All veterinary costs are to be paid directly to the vets (Cinderhill Equine Vets) and are not included in our charges.

All horses whilst at the Stud will receive every possible care, attention and supervision, but no responsibility or liability can be taken for any accident, damage, injury, illness, disease or loss to any horse or person. The Houndsell Stud reserves the right to consult a veterinary surgeon in the event of an emergency, accident or illness, at the owner’s expense without prior notification to the owner. All mares are served and foaled at their owner’s risk and no responsibility can be accepted for injury, damage or loss caused through trying, serving or the foaling of any mare and / or foal. Any problem mares will be twitched or sedated. We advise that broodmares are insured by their owner.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Customer will not be entitled to a refund if the mare loses a foal either before, during or after foaling.

Force Majeure – the Stud will not be liable for any failure or delay in performing its obligations which results from any cause that is beyond the Stud’s reasonable control.

Orders of Semen:

The terms are NFFR (No foal free return) you are entitled to multiple attempts to get your mare in foal for the stud fee, you will need to provide evidence from your vet that your mare is not in foal before we send more. You will need to pay the collection fee and postage (if applicable) each time you require semen. This is not transferable to a different mare unless agreed with ourselves. All Shipping containers need to be returned to Houndsell Stud within 3 days of arrival. A hire charge of £20 per day will be applied after this. They can be returned at the post office vial royal mail 2nd class.

We accept no responsibility for semen once it leaves us such as delays with delivery.
